The Atlas of the Moroccan Sahara Flora is the result of a multi-year project led by Pr. Abdelaziz Hirich, with contributions from Dr. Ayoub El Mouttaqi, Pr. Youssef El Kharrasi, Pr. Ahmed Ouhammou, Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Pr. Hassan Boukcim, Pr. Abdelkader Taleb and Mr. Claude Lemmel. It focuses on the regions of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab in southern Morocco. The Atlas aims to characterize and conserve native plant species, document indigenous knowledge, and support local development through valorization. Based on surveys of over 250 sites, the Atlas documents 424 plant species, including 346 native and 13 endemic to Morocco. It also highlights 38 threatened species. This scientific and ethnobotanical reference contributes to biodiversity conservation, research, and sustainable use of native plants in sectors such as medicine, forage, food, and cosmetics.
