BIO

Dr. Mohamed Essalhi is a Professor of Water Engineering and Desalination Technologies at ASARI/UM6P Laâyoune. He earned his BSc in Physics (2004) and MSc in Energy Systems and Materials (2007) from Abdelmalek Essaadi University in Morocco. He later obtained a second MSc in Renewable Energy Applications and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the Faculty of Physical Sciences, UCM, Spain, supported by a Middle East Desalination Research Center scholarship. His doctoral research led to the development of innovative desalination membranes, including polymeric nanofibrous and hollow-fibrous types, and earned him the Extraordinary Ph.D. Award. Since 2019, he has worked as a postdoctoral researcher and then as Senior Research Engineer at Umeå University in Sweden, where he leads a Swedish Energy Agency project on extracting Blue Energy via Reverse Electrodialysis. With 23 research papers, 5 book chapters, and involvement in 13 R&D projects, Dr. Essalhi’s interests span nanotechnology, membrane engineering, solar-powered desalination, green solvents, and energy storage.
